Spelling

 Weekly spelling lists are sent home with the Scott Foresman Family Times newsletter.  It is important for first graders to practice their spelling words with parent supervision.  Children need to learn correct spelling and letter formation.  It may surprise parents to know that children who can spell their weekly words, often cannot read those words in context.  So please support the practice of reading weekly spelling words as well as writing them.

 Children may also enjoy additional practice of weekly spelling words online. To get started, simply go to  http://www.spellingcity.com/kempjudith/ to see the first grade spelling words. Be sure to add the site to My Favorites, or download an icon to your desktop for your child’s convenience (you’ll find directions for doing so at the site.) 

• The lists will appear in weekly order, and your child can select the current list to practice this week’s words, or return to old lists for review.
• Have fun playing the many games and making various printouts!
